Long Awaited and Well Overdue Hawaii Update

Music:
For our drummers and pipers who have registered with both us (POP) and MTC, you should have
received your music via email yesterday (Aug 6). If it is not in your inbox, please check your spam folder.
If it is not there either, please let me know and I will resend it to you. Perhaps I may have copied down your email address incorrectly. For the pipers, there are several tunes that have 2nds & 3rds. If you are willing to play the harmonies, please let me know before I have to volunteer people.

Uniform / Kit:
Since this “gig” will be in Hawaii, expect the weather to be very warm or even hot with high humidity. As such, I would highly recommend wearing “Tropicals” – or as the Royal Regiment of Scotland (SCOTS) Dress Manual depicts, No. 14A & 14B – Shirt Sleeve Order Dress Ceremonial / Shirt Sleeve Order Barrack Dress. (pics attached)


I would highly discourage you from wearing Feather Bonnets and Doublets, or even Argyle Coats. It’s just not that kind of a gig. If you want to wear long/short sleeves and a waistcoat, that will be fine. Just keep in mind both the climate as well as the “Vibe” of Hawaii.

Fence Sitters:
If you are still sitting on the fence debating on whether to join us or not, please do! Our numbers are far fewer than they were for the Rose Parade, and we can really use you! MTC has placed a deadline of Friday, August 29th as the final day to join.
Having said that, we will not be taking any more Drum Major applications as those spots are completely filled. Pipers, Drummers (all kinds), and Dancers are more than welcome to join us.

I have received some messages from a few of our neighbors to the north stating that they will not be joining us due to perceived political tensions between the USA and Canada. That is entirely their prerogative. All I ask is that if you have had a change of heart and no longer wish to join us in Hawaii, please email me at pipesonparade@gmail.com such that I can remove you from our rosters and not inundate you with future updates.

Pearl Harbor Day Parade – December 2025

In case you haven’t heard yet, Pipes On Parade has been invited to perform our Second Grand Adventure! We have been invited to participate in the Pearl Harbor Days Parade on the Island of Oahu in December 2025!

What is the Pearl Harbor Days Parade?

Taken directly from their website, www.pearlharborparade.org:

“December 7, 1941, was a day that would live in infamy and thrust the United States of America into the second World War. Now, over 80 years later, Americans and people from all over the world gather to pay tribute to those whose service and sacrifice preserved freedom and liberty at home and abroad. During this five-year WWII commemoration period, the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade will commemorate the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. This will be an important reminder of that fateful day, while providing hope that from conflict and the devastation of war, peace and friendship can occur. The Annual Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade will also feature the WWII80 Pearl Harbor Massed Band and Choir in our official opening ceremony. 

The theme of the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade is “remembering our past while celebrating that once bitter enemies can become friends and allies.” The purpose of the parade is to honor and pay respect to the Pearl Harbor survivors, our veterans, active duty military and their families. The parade takes place each year in Hawaii on December 7th – the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack.” 

2025 is the final year of this event, so this will most definitely be a Once-In-A-Lifetime Opportunity! 

What will our involvement look like?

Although we are still putting our travel package together, our tentative schedule will be a 5-night stay in Oahu – Arrive Dec 4, Depart Dec 9. Aside from the actual parade on the evening of Dec 7, other events and performance opportunities will include: Circle Island Tour, USS Missouri Tribute Performance, Opening Ceremony Performance with the Massed Bands and Choir, Luau. There will also be some free time scheduled for you to explore and enjoy Honolulu.

How do you join our ranks and get involved?

Step 1: Go to our website and complete the registration form – www.pipesonparade.com/register

Step 2: Submit your audition. (Audition criteria will be sent out via email)

Step 3: Upon passing your audition, we will send you a link to register with our tour company, Music Travel Consultants (MTC).

How much will this cost me?

Just like the Rose Parade, this is most definitely a Pay-To-Play opportunity. Estimated per-person costs range from $2300-$3500 ($383-$583/day) depending on lodging arrangements (quad, triple, double, single).

Welcome to Pipes On Parade: The Massed Pipes & Drums!

Thank you for being here!

If you are a newcomer, or a returning veteran who marched with us for the 135th Tournament of Roses Parade, WELCOME!!!

I am pleased to announce that based upon our overwhelming success at the Rose Parade, we are most definitely NOT a “One and Done” band!

Numerous performance opportunities have opened up for us and in this Blog, I will do my best to convey in what direction we are headed.

Generally speaking, future performances of Pipes On Parade will fall into two general categories:

1) Festivals & Tattoos

and what I like to call:

We have been invited to perform as part of the Massed Bands for this year’s Long’s Peak Scottish-Irish Highland Festival in Estes Park, Colorado (Sept 4-8). We also have some strong leads (nothing confirmed yet) of other festivals/tattoos that would like us to join them. These festivals/tattoos will typically provide lodging, food, and local transportation. Basically, the only out-of-pocket expense you will incur is your travel to that specific location.

Grand Adventures

Grand Adventures are performances where we act as an autonomous unit in a larger event setting like we did for the Rose Parade.
